Shivkrupa Bharatnatyalaya was established in 1968 by Guru Satishkumar Pillai a descendent of a traditional artist Gauri Amma from Tanjavur, who came to Vadodara along with the princess of Tanjavur who married Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad. Following Gauri Amma, four sisters from the same family arrived at Vadodara and with their effort a strong base of Tanjavur style Bharatnatyam was established in Vadodara. The family lived under the royal patronage until the independence and thereafter adapted to training students from different parts of Vadodara. The Shivkrupa Bharatnatyalaya is located at Ajwa Road and is the only school in Vadodara that imparts training and conducts examination in Bharathnatyam in the Tanjavur style.
